Misagh Mottaghi
Presentation
My research interest lies in the relationships between the experiential dimension of the built environment and the formation of everyday life. I study the nature-based transition of urban areas, emphasizing the social implications and complexities of ecological and environmental approaches to mitigating or adapting to climate change. I explore the overlooked entities in the transition processes of urban open spaces by looking at urban processes and considering decision-making, planning, design, and management of spaces as interconnected.
I am trained as an architectural engineer and urban designer and hold a PhD in architecture from Lund University. In my doctoral thesis, Carescape of blue-green solutions: Exploring the socio-materiality of a landscape technology, I obtained a perspective of care and a mixed-method approach to explore how urban life is shaped and given meaning in relation to nature-based stormwater facilities (blue-green solutions) over time and by the context. Here is a short video about my PhD research: https://vimeo.com/885243127
I am deeply interested in more-than-human perspectives, and in my work, mundane life and urban environments are mutually shaping and transforming each other. I am also a guest lecturer and guest researcher at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment at Lund University. I am passionate about examining and incorporating the ever-evolving human-nonhuman relationships and accordingly updating the methods and approaches in education and practices of the disciplines involved in shaping the built environment.
