Presentation
I have been analysing metagenomes and microbial genomics for more than 10 years, and practising bioinformatics for nearly 15.
My main focus has been microbial ecology of aquatic systems but I have analysed data from such environments as diverse as arctic oceans to mouse gut and malaria mosquito microbiomes as well transcriptomics of kidneys.
My main personal research resolves around the "shape" of microbial diversity from a genomic point of view. Trying to link the genomic space of prokaryotic populations through the tree of life with an eye on macro-evolutionary patterns.
I originally studied engineering with a focus on bioinformatics and modelling, followed by a PhD in computer sciences on microbially inspired evolutionary algorithms and the evolution of in-silico multi-cellularity.
After a short stint in the medical systems biology of ageing mouse kidneys, I have focused on microbial diversity coming to Uppsala University as a metagenomics expert at NBIS, and researcher in the department of Limnology, and then moved to SLU with Stefan Bertilsson.
Teaching
I taught bioinformatics and computer science courses, as instructor, teaching assistant, and course organiser. The main topics covered were metagenomics, genomics, R, Python, and Linux courses.
Supervision
Supervised Master student, interns, and PhD students usually with strong focus on bioinformatics.
Also generally supported a large number of research staff with computational skills.
