I studied biology and biochemistry at University of Jyväskylä in Finland, where I also did my PhD in localization of proteins in germinating barley grains. After that I had a postdoc period in University of York in UK. I came to SLU 1999 and was responsible for the Electron Microscopy Unit in Alnarp until the end of 2013. Currently most of my time goes to education, minor part for research.
I am a course leader for plant protection courses in the horticultural management bachelor's programme. I am also a course leader for master's thesis projects in biology and horticultural science. I teach plant anatomy and physiology in horticulture and landscape programmes in Alnarp. I am involved in some PhD courses, especially in microscopy courses.
Through electron microscopy unit I became involved in many research projects where structural studies were needed. The latest projects have been about dormancy in hybrid aspen, distirubution of lipids in stem of hybrid aspen and Fusarium/oat-interactions. Currently I am involved in a project about elemental distribution in infected potato leaves in the resistance biology group in the department of plant protection biology, as well as in a collaboration about strawberry production system with Sammar Khalil in the department of biosystems and technology.
I do like to promote networking and applications between education, stakeholders and companies, for example through my contacts in SLU Grogrund and Partnerskap Alnarp. Currently I am involved in a theme of invasive alien plants in Pufendorfinstitution at Lund university, a project highly relevant for the society.
