Stina Drakare
My research interest is patterns in biodiversity on global, regional and local scales and how such patterns are influenced by changes in the environment

Presentation

I am associate professor and deputy head at the Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment and head of the Ecology and Biodiversity Division.

SLU-assignments

  • Member of the faculty board at the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences (FN-NJ), SLU, 2022-2024
  • Member of the program board at the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences (PN-NJ), 2019-2022
  • Deputy head of Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment, 2019-
  • Deputy member of the program board at the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences (PN-NJ), 2016-2019
  • Head of Ecology and Biodiversity Division, Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment, 2013-
  • Coordinatoror for the SLU Environmental monitoring and assessment Lakes and watercourses programme, 2009-2021
  • Director of studies for PhD students, Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment, 2009-2013

Research-wise, the focus is on phytoplankton, algal blooms and aquatic food webs and the development of DNA-based methods to study aquatic organisms at different scales and adapt them for use in large scale monitoring. I work closely to the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management and develop assessment methods for water management.

I have a large Focus on Mälaren, in a collaboration with Lake Mälaren's water conservation association, to facilitate the exchange between research and social interests around the lake.

Teaching

Mainly on two courses (in Swedish): Energi och miljö (Energy and the Environment) and Energisystemens miljöpåverkan (Environmental Impacts of Energy Systems for civil engineer students)

I regularly supervise bachelor and master projects, usually with focus on Lake Mälaren. Some examples are:

Research

Current project:

  • VR-project: Global change depletes pelagic food webs in northern lakes (Web4Food)

Environmental analysis

I was coordinator for the Lakes and watercourses programme. Now, my contribution is mainly via environmental monitoring projects such as Focus on Mälaren and IKEU (Integrated Studies of the Effects of Liming Acidified Waters).

I also lead the laboratory that analyzes phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthic fauna, algae and other aquatic plants for mainly national monitoring.

Supervision

  • Carlotta Meriggi, PhD 2023, SLU
  • Hannah Fried-Petersen, PhD 2021, SLU
  • Didier Baho, PhD 2015, SLU, SL
  • Jürg Brendan Louge, PhD 2010, UU
  • Ina Bloch, PhLic, 2010, SLU
