The purpose of my PhD project is to develop new forest planning models to minimize the negative effects of future climate change. Forests are exposed to a large number of natural disturbances during their lifetime. Solely natural disturbance regimes have been responsible for large economic losses over the last 150 years in Europe.

In this project, the increased risk in frequency and intensity of various disturbances due to climate change will be taken into account, e.g. risk of windstorm damage and bark beetle outbreaks. The methods developed in the project will be implemented in the Heureka system, an internationally leading system for decision support in forest management. The project results will be available for use by Sweden's forest owners to find optimal management strategies to reduce the risk of suffering damage from different types of natural disturbances.
