Tobias Emilsson
Presentation
I am working as a researcher in the Urban vegetation theme group. I have been running applied research and development projects on green roofs since 2001. I have been working both in academic and commercial environments and find the border between technology, biology and innovation particularly interesting.
Teaching
I have primarily been teaching subjects related to soil – plant interactions, botany and urban vegetation.
Research
I have a broad interest in research and development of products, systems and concepts for creating a green vegetated city. During the last years, I have primarily been focusing on issues related to substrates on different types of green roof systems. I have been actively involved in the development of the Swedish handbook and guidelines for green roof installation that is going to be released during 2017. I have also been running some small research projects on vertical green space, so called green walls. Our latest projects are related to substrates for street trees, developing testbeds for green infrastructure, sensor technology for increasing our understanding of the water situation for street trees. We are also involved in project were we try to improve the way road side vegetation is managed and how the biomass can be utilised as e.g. biogas.
Cooperation
I have been involved in the Augustenborg botanical roof garden and the Scandinavian green roof institute since early 2000.
