Employees in the landscape area met for an exchange of experience and inspiration in Alnarp on October 9-10. This year, the two days began with the alumnus of the year award.
It was the first time that this year's alumnus comes from the landscape architecture program. Johan Folkesson is chief architect at the Swedish Transport Administration and was awarded by Christina Lunner Kolstrup, dean at LTV, for SLU Alumn of the Year 2024 when SLU Landscape Days began.
- It feels honorable for me and important that landscape architecture is highlighted, we have many solutions in society. We can visualize an alternative future that we can talk about. It is important to be able to show qualitative visions in a society that relies heavily on numbers, said Johan Folkesson.
He then participated in a panel discussion entitled “How can the profession develop to meet future challenges, and how can the landscape perspective in planning and design be strengthened?”. Different generations, from students to senior landscape architects, talked about the profession taking on more roles.
Keynote speaker Maggie Roe, Professor at Newcastle University, then spoke on 'Landscape approaches for transformative change'. She argued that we live in a critical time for successful change and that new ways of approaching landscapes require stories.
Several workshops were next on the agenda, including “Sloyd and talk - ‘crafting’ a discussion on landscape” where participants tried their hand at sloyd and talk.
