She finished her Master's degree earlier this year and has now jumped straight into a PhD position at LAPF. Welcome Magdalena Krasteva!

Magdalena describes herself as a plant ecologist who originally is a chemist. Her bachelor's degree is in chemistry and during her studies she took a course in plant ecology for fun. She liked it so much that she switched careers.

– It surprised everyone, including myself. It's a useful background though, I still use chemistry.

Her doctoral project is about green roofs in Malmö and Ishi Buffam is her supervisor.

– My part will be to study nitrogen cycles and nutrients in green roofs. There seem to be strange variations in nitrogen that I will investigate. The green roofs have very specific ecosystems with their thin layers of substrate. Now I can't wait for spring so I can climb up on the roofs with the measuring equipment.

Originally from Sofia, Bulgaria, Magdalena lived in the Netherlands during her bachelor studies. She has now moved to Malmö after two years in Lund. In her spare time she likes to read, paint, knit and go to concerts.

– Preferably metal. It suits the Swedish darkness, says Magdalena Krasteva.
