Danny Lau was recently appointed associate professor at the Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment at SLU. His research focuses on how climate change and other factors affect food webs in aquatic ecosystems.

Last fall, the NJ faculty decided to appoint Danny Chun Pong Lau as associate professor in the subject of biology with a specialisation in ecology.

Freshwater is essential for both humans and wildlife. Research shows that the effects of factors such as climate change are complex and that it is crucial to understand how different driving factors interact over time and space.

- Therefore, knowledge about food webs and how species interact in freshwater environments is needed. Influencing factors can affect several species simultaneously but also indirectly affect the entire ecosystem through chain reactions from one species to another, Danny Lau explains.

Danny's research focuses on food webs, biodiversity and the functioning of aquatic ecosystems. He is particularly interested in their responses to anthropogenic stressors such as eutrophication, acidification, browning and climate change. Danny enjoys studying lakes, ponds, rivers and coastal waters in northern regions, including the Arctic.
