SWECCLIM
In February, a number of higher education institutions/public authorities in Sweden – SLU, Uppsala University, the National Veterinary Institute, Karolinska Institutet, the University of Gothenburg and Linköping University – submitted a joint application, SWECCLIM (Swedish Experimental Clinical Center for Large-Animal Innovative Models).
In competition with other important grant applications, the Swedish Research Council has now decided to prioritise other applications and has rejected the SWECCLIM application.
If the Swedish Research Council considers that there is a continued need for a structure like SWECCLIM, we will look into whether there is a shared interest in applying again when the next call is published.
SWECCLIM was intended to be a national infrastructure for clinical and experimental research for large-animal models, where all research was to be done in collaboration with experts all around the country in order for the results to benefit both humans and animals, with a focus on increased animal welfare.
The application concerned an amount of MSEK 90 for the coordination of existing competencies and skills to form a joint national research infrastructure for clinical and experimental research using large animal models.
The application incorporated the following:
- 3R (Replace, Reduce, Refine)
- Experimental large animal models
- Diagnostic imaging
- Infection research
- Spontaneous domestic animal models
The application to the Swedish Research Council did not include funding for specific research projects or animal studies.
