Writing the thesis summary – often referred to as the “kappa” – is the final phase of the doctoral studies. This summary is intended to describe four years of full time work and the individual studies that comprise the doctoral thesis. Some PhD-students find this final part challenging and express a need for advice on the writing process. This seminar will give an overview of the thesis summary with an emphasis on the composite thesis (collection of articles and a summary).
The seminar will go through the guidelines of SLU, describe the various headings that can be included, offer recommendations on the writing process, convey some examples of thesis summaries, and provide practical advice on how to approach this final phase. The seminar will also provide ample time for questions and answers about writing the thesis summary. It is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about writing the thesis summary, regardless of research area or faculty.
This seminar is open for all PhD students.
Venue: To be announced (SLU Umeå campus) along with the digital seminar option.
Please confirm your participation by 2022-03-09 by clicking the red "Register here" button. For any questions you have contact the SILVA Research school coordinators

It is not common that doctoral students have the time to get experience in how to apply for funding to continue their work within their research discipline. This is however important if one wants to continue working in academia. Some issues that we will discuss during the workshop will be; what should you consider when applying for funds? How do you prepare to write a good research proposal? what is the most important part of the research proposal?
