Plant residues, originating from either a main crop or a cover crop, influence N₂O emissions. Knowing the relative importance of the quantity, quality and placement of residues and abiotic conditions such as water content and nitrogen additions, and how these factors interact, can help us adjust the management of cropping systems and decrease emissions. I will present results from the European project ResidueGas and I would like to discuss how we can use these results in our future research.
