Infrastruktur för grund- och tillämpad forskning om trä- och fiber (ultra)struktur, egenskaper och avancerade trä- och fiberbiomaterial.
Vår forskningsinfrastruktur med avgörande betydelse, omfattar
anläggningar för mekanisk provning av biomaterial, trätork, kalla och varma impregneringssystem för industriella och småskalig behandling av trä, kemiska laboratoriet med HPLC, TGA och spektroskopi faciliteter och 4 provningsfält för beständighetsprovning i Sverige och tropikerna. Institutionen har utmärkta faciliteter för elektronmikroskopi (TEM/SEM) inklusive avancerad anläggning för framställning av biologiska prover. Vi forskar om vedens beständighet, har egen PCR-anläggning samt ett omfattande svampherbarium. Laboratoriet är ackrediterat av SWEDAC enligt ISO 17 025-standarden och utför provning och utveckling av
träskyddsmedel och trä- och fiber modifiering, samt kemisk och mekanisk
provning av biomaterial. De ovan nämnda tjänsterna är tillgängliga för
forskning (grundläggande/tillämpad) och produktutveckling, industriellt
samarbete och grund- och forskarutbildning.
Elektronmikrskopienhet för preparering och förberedelse av biomaterial för skanning- (SEM) och transmissionselektronmikroskopi (TEM).
Elektronmikroskopinfrastrukturen består av TEMs (Philips TEM CM12, FEI-Tecnai T20), SEM-apparater (Philips XL30, Hitachi S-4500) och en rad konventionella och avancerad utrustning för preparering. Enheten har byggts upp under de senaste 25 åren via konkurrenskraftiga bidrag från FORMAS, VINNOVA, Wallenberg och industrin.
Vi ger hjälp till forskare inom eller utanför SLU med intresse att använda tekniken genom samarbete och/eller konsultation. Infrastrukturen har inget ekonomiskt stöd till instrumenttjänst eller teknisk hjälp från SLU och måste därmed ta en serviceavgift för användning. Även om infrastrukturen är inriktad på trä- och fiberultrastruktur, är tekniken tillämpbar för alla typer av livs- och naturvetenskapliga frågor.
Infrastrukturen ingår i Uppsala Electron Microscope-nätverket, som inkluderar Uppsala universitet CEMPEG (Geologi); Mikroskopi enhet vid EBC (Evolution Biology); EM-enhet vid medicinsk cellbiologi, BMC (cellbiologi); Fysisk kemi - BMC; Analyslaboratoriet vid Ångström Laboratorium och SciLifeLab / BioVisplatform. (Http://www2.teknik.uu.se/unem/). Nätverket genomför en årlig doktorandkurs på TEM / SEM som innehåller både praktiska och teoretiska aspekter av elektronmikroskopi
