Producing alternative discourses in environmental communication – the Silencing/Unsilencing Nature educational project

Sessionen vänder sig till dig som är intresserade av pedagogik, fotografi och konst, av hur människan konstruerar naturen, av människa-natur-etik (antropocentrism, ekocentrism) och av deltagande metoder såsom fotovy (photovoice).

Beskrivning:

In this session, the educational project Silencing/Unsilencing Nature (SUN) is presented, discussed and co-analyzed. The SUN project aims to unpack the discursive-material relationship between humans and nature, and reflects on how nature often has been silenced. At the same time, it investigates how nature can be given more of a voice and become unsilenced.

The specific objective of the project is to facilitate youngsters to themselves produce a photo exhibition and catalogue, with photographs that unsilence nature, and thus create alternative discourses, driven by empathy and respect. SUN is an educational package, with four video essays, two assignment videos, an introductory and conclusion video and an extensive script, including a series of exercises.

The session will include a presentation of the basic principles of the SUN project, but also the results of the first SUN workshop, which took place at the end of October 2020. This workshop was part of the Lyssna! project, which is a collaboration between Färgfabriken, Virserums art gallery and Skellefteå art gallery. Participants of the practice day will be invited to share their perspectives on the SUN project, and co-analyze its strengths and weaknesses.
