International networks and platforms

International collaboration is one of the university's guiding principles, and we have partnerships in many places, in many different fields. Some of the key networks and strategic platforms for collaboration are listed here.
Educational networks
SLU is a member of three international educational networks (International networks, page at the staff web, in Swedish):
- Euroleague for Life Sciences (ELLS) The ELLS network consists of selected European universities in the areas of life sciences, agriculture, forestry, environmental science, natural resource management, veterinary and food science.
- Nordic Forestry, Veterinary and Agricultural University Network (NOVA/BOVA) NOVA is a network of the eight Nordic universities in veterinary medicine and forestry and agricultural sciences. NOVA acts to support, manage and initiate cooperation between member universities, particularly in advanced education and research.
- Association for European Life Science Universities, ICA - a network of over 60 European member institutions. Acts to facilitate cooperation between agricultural departments in European universities.
International platforms for research and environmental assessment
- Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, CGIAR
- an international organisation that supports research and development within agriculture (including forestry science and veterinary medicine) and the natural resources area. - Global Challenges University Alliance, GCUA - an SLU initiative to gather the leading universities on every continent around issues of food security, bio-energy, sustainable urban development and climate.
- International Council for the Exploration of the Sea, ICES - the International Marine Research coordinates and promotes marine research in the North Atlantic.
- International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, IIASA - IIASA is an international scientific institute that conducts research on the problems and challenges particularly of environmental issues that are too large or too complex to be solved by a single academic discipline or country.
- International Union of Forest Research Organizations, IUFRO - SLU and Sweden will be hosts for the international forest conference IUFRO 2024 in Stockholm.
- Agrinatura
SLU is a member of Agrinatura, an alliance of 35 European universities and research organisations that share an interest in supporting sustainable agricultural development in order to improve people’s lives. - EU Grassland Watch Since 2023, SLU, via the Artdatabanken, has been a "subcontractor" in this pilot project financed by the European Commission. The project develops a method to use satellite images to monitor the condition of grassland habitats within the EU's network of protected areas Natura2000.
